Moving Past Your Fear Through Gentleness

What do you do when your child, pet, or loved one is feeling fearful, anxious, worried, or scared?

Well, what I’m guessing you don't do is yell at them. You don't beat them; you don't get mad at them; you don't feed their fear, right? You don't make it worse. You don't tell them they're stupid or dumb or that they shouldn't feel this way or belittle them, right?

No, of course not.

Instead, you hug them. You say, “Oh, everything's going to be okay. You're doing great; it's all right. All is fine.”

You help show them that their fears aren't real and that everything really is okay. You show them gentleness, love, compassion, kindness, and comfort. You help them feel better.

So then have you ever thought about what it would be like if you showed this same thing to yourself when you were feeling fearful, scared, anxious, worried, or uncertain instead of feeding your fear and getting upset with yourself and your life?

Now I feel you. It can feel scary as heck to be pushing out of your comfort zone to take your life to the next level. Losing sleep wondering if things will work out or not as you go for your dreams and even risk careers, relationships, and your current lifestyle in order to try to create what you want in life.

But everything you want is on the other side of your fear. Everything you want is on the other side of that discomfort, uncertainty, anxiety, and scared feeling.

And I want you to know that all those fears are just made up anyway. They're made up by your beautiful mind in order to try to keep you safe, but they're all an illusion and just a perception you have based on what you've learned in your life.

But moving past and getting through your fears is all about stepping into gentle love for yourself and your circumstances. Love is that bridge to take you forward to everything you’re dreaming about.

And that love is the gentleness, compassion, and comfort that I’ve just been talking about that you so beautifully share with others when they are in their fears.

So the next time you're feeling that fear ask yourself:

- How would you parent yourself like you would when you had a child who was afraid of something under the bed?

- How would you parent yourself like you would if you had a pet who was afraid of the lightning and the thunderstorm?

- How would you parent yourself if this was your best friend who was just feeling really scared about taking a big step in her life?

Let me know what happens. 😊
